Isophorone is a colorless to yellow liquid. It is used as a solvent for paints, lacquers, adhesives, copolymers, pesticides, nitrocellulose finishes, printing inks for plastics, and concentrated vinyl chloride/acetate-based coatings for metal cans. It is used as a solvent and as an intermediate in chemical synthesis. It is an intermediate to prepare 3,5-xylenol and 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol, and also a plant growth retardant.
